The oval shape actually fits a whole Christmas ham without me having to trim it down first, which was the whole reason I bought it. Did ham, egg and chips on Boxing Day and the leftovers soup after, and it's held up fine through all of it.

I've been using this oval pot for Sunday roasts and it heats so evenly there are no hot spots. The cast iron really holds the warmth, so the ham stayed hot while we went back for seconds.

Made a huge Christmas ham in this and it fit perfectly with room for the glaze. The cast iron held the heat so well that the ham stayed warm on the table through seconds. Boxing Day sandwiches barely made a dent in it.
